London to Paris

Event Date: 24th - 27th June 2010
In June 2010 Team Wiggle Tandem made history by becoming the first tandem pairing ever to take part in a race from London to Paris.

Taking their custom built Dolan record bike in road trim, Jez Hastings and David Harmon flew along the 3 day London - Paris Cycle Tour, starting at Hampton Court in London and finishing along the legendary Champs Elysees, under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, to become the first pairing in the history of cycle racing to compete in an event between the 2 great capital cities.

The history of racing between London and Paris is a long and distinguished one, it was even the distance that the flowering youth of Britain's post war road talent chose to use to take on the established continental professionals in the Olympic year of 1948 but never since cycle racing began in the late 19th century has a tandem mixed it up with the solos in a competitive event on the course.

Riding a tandem in a fast bunch is never easy and Team Wiggle Tandem were a regular site at the back of the group on the stiff climbs through Kent and northern France, but, as is the nature of tandeming the pair shot back into the pack and often off the front on the descents thanks to speeds of over 75kmh.

The London - Paris Cycle Tour, known as 'The Professional Event for Amateurs' attracts the cream of the UK's sportive and competitive cyclists, including former superstar riders such as winner of the Vuelta a Espana and multiple classics Sean Kelly, Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and World Champion Irish rider Stephen Roche and a clutch of others including Scott Sunderland and Magnus Bäckstedt.
